For these past few months, you have been so excited to go on a camping trip but with barely a few days until the vacation, you still have not yet decided on where you actually want to go. Do not fret. To make things easier for you, consider going to Colorado, one of the best places for a great camping getaway that offers majestic green forests, exciting camping activities, and well-established trails.

To help you decide on this matter, here is a list of some of the best camping grounds in this part of the country that will surely make you come back for more.

Front Range of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains

The breathtaking Rocky Mountains make people from this state very proud. Not only does it offer spectacular mountain views, it also boasts of wide-open spaces where people can enjoy a wonderful camping trip. Located at the front range of these mountains are these campsites:

  1. Glacier Basin – Located at the west of Estes park, this campsite offers tent and RV camping as well as activities such as horseback riding and hiking on the Trail Ridge Road.
  2. Aspenglen Campground – You will find this campground along Fall River, west of the Estes Park. Its nearby attractions include Estes Park, Longs Peak, and the Trail Ridge Road.
  3. Morain Park Campground – Also located West of Estes Park, it offers the same attractions.
  4. Guanella Pass – This one is nestled just south of Georgetown in Arapaho National Forest. It gives you the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway and the Georgtown Loop Railroad.

Western Slope of Rocky Mountains

Compared to the front range, this part of the Rocky Mountains is sparsely populated so if you want to escape the bustle and hustle of the city and you are looking for some quality quiet time, this is the area ideal for you. Some of the wonderful campsites here include:

  1. Eggleston Campground – This is located east of Grand Junction. It offers tent camping, RV parking, and nearby attractions like the Eggleston Lake, Grand Messa, and The town of Grand Junction.
  2. Cobbett Lake – Also found in the east of Grand Junction, this is also a place suitable for both tent and RV campers. Here you can enjoy the splendid view of the Cobbett Lake, Grand Messa, and take a trip to the town of Grand Junction.
  3. Bookcliff – This one you can find at the northwest of the Grand Junction near the town of Loma. You will enjoy visiting the Highline Lake, and Mack Mesa Lake.

Central Rocky Mountains

If you want the most impressive scenery, the central part is where you should go. Here you will be able to see the scenic peaks and vistas or Park Range, Medicine Bow Mountains and Gore Range. Some of the campgrounds you can visit here are the:

  1. Railroad Bridge Campground – Situated at the north of Buena Vista on the Arkansas River where you could go tent camping, RV camping, and even winter camping. You can do all sorts of exciting activities here such as white water rafting and wildlife viewing.
  2. Collegiate Peaks Campground – This one is positioned at the west of Buena Vista. Aside from white water rafting and wildlife viewing, other activities you can do here include mountain climbing and fishing.
  3. Cottonwood Lake Campground – If you are bound southwest of Buena Vista, you will find this campground where you can do all of the activities mentioned above plus fishing and kayaking.
