Tent camping is not just an activity. It is also a big responsibility. If you choose to camp in Colorado, you know that you will not only get to enjoy spectacular views of mountains and plains, and do all sorts of exciting activities like rock climbing, hiking, and white water rafting, you should also be able to do your share in protecting the environment and keeping the peace around.
Whether you choose to camp in Colorado or any other camping destination, you need to follow camping etiquette guidelines to ensure that you do not encounter any problem. Here are some camping etiquette pointers to keep in mind.
- Know and follow all the rules
As you probably know, Colorado is rich in natural resources so it is only right that its government would do everything to protect its Mother Nature. With this said, it is important that you know the rules and regulations when it comes to camping so that you do not do anything that can hurt or damage the environment. Also remember that rules vary from one campsite to another so it is best that you get to know the rules in the specific campground of your choice before the actual trip.
- Leave No Trace
In line with the first tip, the “leave no trace” campaign, which is enforced not only in Colorado, but in most parts of the United States, require campers to take everything that they brought to the campsite. This means that you cannot leave any litter or trash in the campsite nor do anything that can harm wildlife such as vandalizing. It is important not only to follow this policy but also to educate kids about it. If you are going camping with the family and kids are joining you, you have to teach them about the importance of this policy. As you know, kids are curious beings and some of them might play around roughly and even pick out flowers or leaves, which they should not do.
- Respect your Neighbors
Campers travel to far places to achieve some peace and quiet. If other campers are noisy and rowdy, you will have a difficult time relaxing. With this said, it is important that you respect other campers’ privacy as well. Do not play loud music and do not talk too loud. Remember, do unto others what you want others to do unto you. If you are in the middle of relaxation and somebody goes into your space, you will be annoyed, right? So see to it that you keep your distance from other campers so they can also have their own private camping activity.
- Respect Wildlife
Whatever you do, whether it is bird watching, fishing, or hiking, be mindful of your surroundings. Always keep in mind that the wildlife is filled with living things that should not be harmed or disturbed. Walk only on established trails, watch birds according to the state park’s schedule, make use of environment-friendly camping equipment, and never disturb the natural habitats of animals.
People who go to camping trips should not only focus on the “fun” part of this activity. They should also be concerned about the environment and should be able to practice proper camping etiquette as discussed in this article.
